Secondary Global Art Project (PAG Secondaire) – Memories, views

The Memorial Charles de Gaulle is offering 5th year classes a Global Art Project, commonly known as a PAG, in partnership with the Reims Education Department, the Haute Marne schools inspectorate, the DRAC (Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs and the local authorities in the Champagne Ardenne region. The aim of the PAG is to bring together a set of artistic projects around a common theme and based on a cultural structure.

Supervised by the Memorial’s Educational Department and their teachers, pupils examine remembrance sites and the cultural heritage of Colombey-les-deux-églises. They work with the photographer Eric Girardot on image capture and work on these images. It will look at people, objects, places and landscapes as imprints of the past and present. Each class develops the topic according to its own project. The work produced may be the subject of an exhibition at the Memorial in May.

The annual organisation of the work carried out as part of the PAG « memories, views » consists of three stages :

Stage 1
:  Introduction to the De Gaulle trip down memory lane in Colombey
The Educational Department is offering each class registered a PAG to experience, over a full day, an example of the De Gaulle trip down memory lane in Colombey-les-deux-églises.
This tour begins at La Boisserie, continues through  the village and the family tomb, then to the Cross of Lorraine, and ends at the Memorial Charles de Gaulle. In the course of the day, pupils will cover all aspects of the De Gaulle trip down memory lane in Colombey.

Stage 2
:  Second visit to the Memorial
Should they wish to do so, pupils pay a second visit to the Memorial to work on the subject of their choice, in line with their respective projects. For some pupils, this takes the form of an educational workshop and for others learning more about the Memorial as a tourist business. At the same time, the teams work with Eric Girardot, a photographer from the Haute Marne region, on the capture of images.

Stage 3
: final exhibition of pupils’ work
On 6 May 2010 the PAG classes presented all their artistic creations, in visual, written, song or plastic art form. All photographs were the subject of a temporary exhibition in the Memorial Hall.
